In college a friend accused me of gossiping with her name because the real culprit had badmouthed me and accused me of something she (the culprit) said.

I was hurt when my friend chose to believe a stranger she barely knew even when I told her the truth.

Sometimes being honest can backfire, but still it's a virtue I must uphold.
