After taking a break and recentering myself, I reread the conversation. The manager’s tone had been perfectly neutral, though her manner had been slightly fastidious. She wasn’t blaming me or being self-righteous; she was simply pointing out an error and asking me to fix it. Had I listened to the voice in my head and reacted, I would have been in the wrong.
