That’s the mistake we (women) make. Most men have a problem assimilating words. They rely more on our actions. From what you said I can understand why he assumed you liked him. My father always said, “there is nothing like just friends between a man and a woman”. I find it had to believe but in cases like yours I can see why having a friendship with the opposite sex can be misinterpreted as “leading on”. Just move on with your life and take the lessons from your experience.
