…ime stopped,
once the secondhand
made it past two shades after nine
as clouds twist the same sky — 
so I stopped to ask why
to the dead man walking,
to the dead man ringing broken bells,
and to the dead man with the relentless face
whispering tired reasons to tall trees
to keep singing the same unending seasons — 
but they all just looked right through me,
as if I were the ghost.

That's a hand full. The walking dead are only dead in their minds. I can't imagine seeing a ghost for real.
