I was just having this discussion with my daughter earlier. She wanted to buy a new laptop and a dress and shoe for her friend's graduation.

But she didn’t have money for all. She had to choose to use her old dresses and get the laptop. She was expecting me to pay for her shopping but I made her choose what was more important.

Sometimes I intentionally withhold her allowance so she learns the values of having less.
