I like this post. I must say we (parents) think we know too much and what is best for our children. That's why I'm against my daughter choosing certain courses in career.

However, if we don’t guide our children in the right direction they may end up making an irreversible mistake in life.

I think the best thing we can do is to guide our children while acknowledging their weaknesses too. Like you said, we discover their strengths and enhance them. And not transfer our failed dreams on them.
