First, I subject to the convention of "spare the rod and spoil the child." I look at Western children and how ill-mannered they are, and I'm more convinced that children need a bit of strict upbringing to be responsible.

However, there is a point where reprimanding a child becomes abusive. As a mother, there is no excuse for abusing a child. And no matter how well we mean, there is a limit to hitting a child. If fiscipline that becomes traumatic is an abuse.

There has to be a time when you withdraw from hitting your child and use other forms of discipline that encourages the child to make responsible decision in their life.
