Who knew there’s so much to running than calorie-blasting?
After I quit my job, that was suffocating me. I started my own business and became my own boss. It’s almost five years now, and I can reflect on some significant lessons that I have learned from running that have contributed to my success.
I remember after having my baby, I felt a great need to get back into shape. Instead of concentrating on bonding with my baby, getting in on the whole breastfeeding thing, and giving myself permission to relax and recover, I was already thinking about all the workouts I would do to “get in shape.”
There is so much pressure on you and from the world around you to make it seem like you’ve never had a baby.
Running and cycling were the two cardio exercises I did the most. One morning I skipped the long hours of the treadmill and went running to the woods near my house.
I still remember those first races. Going out at night or running through the local woods so that no one would see my pitiful efforts. That I had to stop breathing and walk so many times, those times it seemed like running was never going to be easier.
